Teller County Assessor's Office

Tom King Teller County Assessor (biography)

Your Assessor's Office is a team of dedicated professionals whose major job is to convey title to, and value your property.

The Administrative Staff/Cartographer whose principal job is to convey title and answer your questions over the phone and in person at the desk are, with few exceptions, Colorado State Registered Appraisers. When they are not directly helping a property owner they are reviewing and checking documents, researching titles and location maps, scanning building plans, verifying compliance with the budget, making maps and charts and/or researching property ownership and boundaries. They are also responsible for the research that can lead to the granting of a Senior Exemption. To date over 800 such exemptions have been approved by this office.

The Appraisal Staff is assigned the tasks of determining property characteristics such as, location, size, type, style, quality, and condition. Data is collected for each property and subsequently photographed and all significant characteristics noted. They also review requests for agriculture classifications. In addition all protests are reviewed and supported in the various appeal venues open to the tax payer. The staff performs the essential function of making sure that all property appraisals are fair and equitable.

The Data Analysis Team collects, analyzes, and reviews information which is used to build a statistical model of the county. The Model is the main tool used to value nearly 30,000 properties within Teller County, including Vacant Land, Real Property, and Commercial.

The Assessor's Office is available from 8:00 AM till 4:30 PM, Monday thru Friday (Holidays Excepted) to aid and assist you in any way possible. Although we do not control your level of taxation, we do strive to make sure that your property is valued correctly. The Actual Value of your property, and its proportional share of the total value of the county, controls the proportion of taxes you pay.

With over one hundred years of experience, our entire staff stands ready to serve you. Please call at 719 689-2941 or walk in at 101 W. Bennett Ave., Cripple Creek, CO 80813
