Representing District #3
Norm Steen moved to Teller County in 1998 when he relocated the corporate office of his transportation services business from Kansas to Woodland Park. As a small business owner of 18 years, he brought new jobs to Teller County while providing a wide range of transportation services to his customers over a four-state region. He sold that business in 2011, and now serves full time as a County Commissioner.
After serving with the US Army on active duty and with the Army National Guard, Norm retired in 2010 as a Brigadier General. He has extensive experience in senior leadership, organizational management, government finance, emergency management, long range planning, public works, logistics and working with state legislatures. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Strategic Studies.
Norm is committed to providing responsible visionary leadership, principled governance, and, through close contact with the citizens he represents, advocating for their best interests in Teller County and at regional, state and national levels. Areas of additional focus include regional and state-wide transportation and infrastructure supporting economic development, human services including children’s issues, veteran’s services, senior services, and inter-governmental collaboration.
Serving his community has always been important to Norm. He is an active volunteer in many community service organizations, church activities, and serves in our public schools system. He and his wife, Dr. Cheryl Steen, have three grown children and three grandchildren, and reside in the Woodland Park area.
