Duties of the Department:

The Planning Department is responsible for developing and administering land use plans and regulations for the purpose of directing growth in an orderly manner.  The Planning Department is assisted by two volunteer boards that are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC): the Planning Commission, and Board of Adjustment.  The Planning Commission considers requests for Conditional Use Permits and Variances, and makes recommendations to the BOCC concerning subdivisions, rezoning requests, mining requests, and regulation amendments.  The Planning commission has seven members and two alternates, and meets twice a month.  The Board of Adjustment meets only as needed to consider certain types of appeals.
