K-9 Unit Division
The Teller County Sheriff's Office Canine Unit, under the
direction of Sergeant
Roger Sandefur, consists of 5
full-time deputies, who work and train on all aspects of
canine
work. Many of our calls for canine service are in the areas
of
building searches, field searches, tracks, article searches
and
suspect apprehensions.
In addition to patrol work the canines are used effectively
in the
Teller County Jail for the same service requirements. Over
the past 15 years our canines have been instrumental in the
apprehension of
numerous felony suspects and the discovery of large amounts
of
illegal drugs.
Most recently the Teller County Sheriff's Office has
received
Homeland Security grant money to obtain two canines that
specialize in the detection of explosive. They have both been trained and are now in service.
